Authorities Monday released the identity of a 22-year-old man wanted in connection with the shooting death of a Poway man whose body was discovered just north of Green Valley Truck Trail in Poway.

Jemal L. Bernard is suspected in the shooting death of James Edward Brue, 49, who was reported missing Friday after failing to arrive at work, Sheriff’s Lt. John Tenwolde said. Brue’s body was found Sunday morning.

A man fitting Bernard’s description was seen walking away from Brue’s car, found parked on Oak Knoll Road east of Carriage Road in Poway, authorities said.

Bernard is described as black with black hair and brown eyes, 6-foot-2 and weighing about 180 pounds, Tenwolde said. Bernard is believed to be armed with a handgun and is considered extremely dangerous, Tenwolde said. No attempts should be made by the public to apprehend him, officials said.

Brue and Bernard had been involved in a long-running dispute over a personal matter, Tenwolde said. Homicide detectives are also investigating whether Bernard had accomplices.

Anyone with information regarding the incident or Bernard’s whereabouts should contact the Sheriff’s Homicide Team 3, by calling 692-5600 or 565-5200.
