Sierra Madre : No Building Fee Waivers
Residents who are rebuilding earthquake-damaged structures will not have building permit fees waived, Mayor Roy Buchan said last week.
Reading a letter during Tuesday’s council meeting, Buchan rebutted the complaints of some residents.
“It is a misconception that the city has realized a windfall from the permits,” he said. “The city is not in a position to provide relief without impacting its revenues.”
Buchan said that, after the June 28, 1991, earthquake, the city’s expenses included the hiring of 10 additional inspectors for several weeks and providing refuse bins for free debris disposal.
