Two weekend freeway shootings--one apparently aimed at a California Highway Patrol officer--left one man in the hospital and two others in jail, authorities said.

A Tarzana man was in fair condition Sunday after he was shot in the chest by a gunman in a passing van while driving his Jaguar on the Ventura Freeway in Agoura Hills on Saturday.

And two Pacoima men were in custody after one of them allegedly stood up through the sunroof of a car and fired several shots at a CHP motorcycle officer Friday on the Hollywood Freeway in Sun Valley.

The driver of the Jaguar, Daryl Douglas, 25, was in the intensive care unit at Westlake Medical Center in Westlake Village after the shooting at 10:45 p.m. Saturday near Kanan Road, a hospital spokeswoman said. No one is in custody in the shooting, Los Angeles County sheriff’s officials said.

Douglas was driving west on the freeway with two passengers when two shots were fired from a passing van, Deputy Wayne Encinas said. One shot penetrated the car door and hit Douglas in the chest; the other went through a window, but hit no one, he said.

Douglas lost control of the car and the passenger next to him grabbed the steering wheel, guiding the car off the freeway and into a fence, according to Lt. Arvie Sherman. Both passengers were uninjured, Encinas said.

Authorities know of no motive for the shooting, he said.

In the other incident, one of two Pacoima men fired several shots from a handgun at the CHP officer, who was riding his motorcycle south on the freeway near Sheldon Street about 1:20 p.m. Friday, Los Angeles police said.

A motorist reported the incident to the CHP and noted the car’s license plate number, leading to the arrests of Urban McConnell, 24, and Daron McConnell, 22, authorities said. The men were being held without bail Sunday on suspicion of attempted murder.
