SANTA PAULA : 18-House Project Gets Initial OK

Share

The Santa Paula City Council gave initial approval Monday to a proposal to build 18 single-family houses on a five-acre lot west of Teague Park.

The council held the second of two public hearings and is expected to formally approve the plan Feb. 18.

“I think it’s a step in the right direction,” Councilman Les H. Maland said. “This will be a transitional area, next to a park and a major arterial.” Westland Co., a Ventura-based developer, originally planned to build 40 houses but scaled down the project after neighbors objected to the density of the development and an expected increase in noise and traffic.

The moderately priced houses would be built on three acres on the southern half of the vacant parcel bounded by Harvard Boulevard, Laurie Lane, Santa Anna Street and Teague Park. The northern half would be reserved for commercial buildings.

The houses will sit on lots ranging from 5,050 to 6,000 square feet. They are expected to cost about $200,000.
