COTO DE CAZA : Issue of Copter Pad Dies Before Board

Share

As expected, a proposal to build a helicopter pad at a home here died before the County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday, but the county staff will study the issue to decide whether a broader policy is needed.

A vote had been scheduled for Tuesday. But the item was pulled from the agenda after local financier Jerry Dunton--who had sought the helipad permit--disclosed that he had decided to sell his eight-acre property.

The issue had ignited a controversy in the rural enclave, dividing neighbors and prompting hundreds of letters to county officials over whether Dunton should be able to build the helipad.

Those active in the debate had predicted a fiery confrontation at Tuesday’s meeting, with residents packing the supervisors’ meeting. Instead, there were only a few hand claps from half a dozen people as Supervisor Thomas F. Riley pulled the item and the board moved on to the next matter.
