U.S. Chooses Florida for Davis Cup Site
Next month’s Davis Cup quarterfinal between the United States and Czechoslovakia will be played on an outdoor hard court in Ft. Myers, the U.S. Tennis Assn. announced Tuesday.
Team lineups were expected to be named within the next two weeks for the March 27-29 match at the Sonesta Sanibel Harbour Resort and Spa.
U.S. captain Tom Gorman said that Jim Courier, the world’s No. 2-ranked player is in the team’s plans. Barring injury, Gorman then must decide whether to break up the newly formed tandem of John McEnroe and Rick Leach or drop Andre Agassi or Pete Sampras.
The United States reached the quarterfinal with a 5-0 sweep of Argentina at Kohala Coast, Hawaii. Petr Korda, Karel Novacek and Cyril Suk played for Czechoslovakia in its first-round sweep of Belgium at Prague.
