The Dons’ star guard scored 112 points during three Whitmont League games to move into seventh place among all-time scoring leaders in the CIF Southern Section with 2,124 points. She also added 34 rebounds, 17 assists and 16 steals as she helped her Dons improve to 9-1 in the league. Esparza scored 30 points and had 13 rebounds, six assists and four steals in a 57-25 victory over La Serna. She then tallied 58 points, the most points in a girl’s game in the state this year, and had 11 rebounds, seven assists and five steals as the Dons defeated Montebello, 88-71. She finished the week with 24 points, 10 rebounds, four assists and seven steals in a 46-35 triumph over Pioneer. “She has nonstop intensity,” Coach Frank Llanes said.

Other top performers:

* Sherise Sandoz led Pius X to a 65-37 victory over St. Anthony by scoring 28 points, then scored 16 points and added 18 rebounds as the Warriors improved to 6-0 in the Camino Real League with a 60-52 win over St. Mary’s.

* Janet Davis, the center for Lynwood High, led her team to three San Gabriel Valley League wins. She scored 15 points as the Knights beat league rival Cerritos, 47-44, then scored 18 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in a 61-28 victory over Warren. She capped the week with 16 points as the Knights improved to 9-0 in league with a 83-28 romp over of Paramount.
