Probe of Gambling Targets Detective
A sheriff’s detective is the target of a criminal investigation into gambling activities at a Spring Valley restaurant and bar.
The sheriff’s special investigations division “is in the preliminary stages of investigating alleged illegal gambling” at the Oxbow Inn in Spring Valley, Sheriff’s Department spokesman Glenn Revell said.
Sources familiar with the investigation said the special unit is examining whether a detective participated in a bookmaking operation conducted during the Super Bowl Jan. 26.
A manager at the Oxbow Inn, who would not give her name, said she knew little about the investigation, other than that the Sheriff’s Department was conducting it. She said there is no gambling at the business.
Revell said department employees “shall not engage in any form of illegal gambling at any time unless it is in the performance of their duties,” such as supervised undercover operations.
