Two women died in separate traffic accidents Thursday caused by wet roads, California Highway Patrol officials said.

In the first accident, a 56-year-old woman was killed entering Interstate 15 in Escondido about 7:15 a.m. She lost control of her car and it careened into a truck, CHP spokeswoman Jackie Sturges said.

Beverly Harris, a telephone company spokeswoman from Escondido, died at the scene. The driver of the truck, Charles Hutchinson, 54, was not injured, Sturges said.

In the second accident, a 22-year-old La Mesa woman, whose name had not been released pending notification of relatives, died when she lost control of her car and it ran into a ditch, Sturges said.

The woman was driving west on Interstate 8 near El Cajon about 1:30 p.m. when the accident occurred.

The car overturned and the woman, who was not wearing a seat belt, was crushed when she was partially thrown from the vehicle, Sturges said.
