Darcy Arreola, formerly of Cal State Northridge, and Marion Jones of Thousand Oaks High have earned national top-10 rankings for 1991 in Track & Field News magazine.

Arreola, who lives in Canoga Park, is ranked fifth in the women’s 1,500 meters.

She won the NCAA Division I championship as a Northridge senior last June and followed that with a third-place finish in The Athletics Congress championships at Randalls Island in New York City.

Arreola was ranked 10th in the 1,500 for the 1989 season.

Jones, who transferred from Rio Mesa High to Thousand Oaks in November, appears in the national rankings for the first time with a No. 5 position in the women’s 200 and a No. 10 ranking in the 100.

She placed fourth in the 200 and eighth in the 100 in the TAC championships shortly after completing her sophomore year at Rio Mesa.

Donna Mayhew, a former standout at Glendale College, and Victoria Herazo, who resides in Newhall, are ranked third in the United States in the women’s javelin and 10,000-meter walk, respectively.

Each finished third in the TAC meet.

Rod Roddenberry, a senior at Harvard-Westlake High, and Steve Copping, his ju-jitsu coach, are scheduled to try out for the world ju-jitsu championships Feb. 8-9 in North Carolina.

The biennial event is the largest contact ju-jitsu tournament. Only eight competitors from each country qualify. This year’s event will be held in Argentina in November.
