The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has awarded a contract to an Irvine firm for design work on a proposed 15-acre swimming lake at Hansen Dam in Lake View Terrace, Rep. Howard L. Berman (D-Panorama City) said Friday.
The $74,000 contract, awarded to Noble Consultants Inc., is the final step before construction can begin on the lake, part of a long-planned renovation of the 660-acre Hansen Dam Recreational Area. The lake and related facilities are expected to cost $2.1 million.
The Army corps expects to begin building the lake by December. A 70-acre boating lake is also planned for the recreation area. The improvements will be financed with state and federal tax funds and fees paid by a private contractor who runs a dredging operation in the area.
