SACRAMENTO — In its second season at the Division I level, Cal State Northridge reached a milestone Saturday night.
The Matadors surpassed last season’s road victory total with an 83-77 triumph over Cal State Sacramento at Hornet Gym.
It was the third road victory of the season for Northridge (8-14), which also equaled last season’s overall victory total.
The Matadors rallied from a seven-point deficit with 12 minutes 56 seconds to play.
“We had a rough spot in the first half and a little rough spot in the second, but we kept battling and kept battling and sooner or later good things happen,” Northridge Coach Pete Cassidy said.
Senior forward Keith Gibbs scored a game-high 26 points and made 10 assists to lead the Matadors. Forward Shelton Boykin also played exceptionally well in scoring 14 points and grabbing six rebounds. Boykin, a senior from San Fernando High, averages six points per game.
The Hornets (3-20) were led by Robert Morris (22 points) and Charlo Davis (21 points).
