James Toney retained his International Boxing Federation middleweight title by scoring a split decision against David Tiberi in a 12-round bout at Atlantic City, N.J.
Bill Lerch scored the bout 115-111, and Frank Garza had it 115-112 for Toney. Frank Brunette saw it 117-111 for Tiberi.
