Sophomore Troy Williams scored six points in the final 4 minutes 28 seconds to lead El Camino College to a 67-64 South Coast Conference basketball victory against visiting Pasadena City College on Saturday night.

After Williams made two free throws to tie the score at 61, he was fouled by Chris Bush with 1:16 remaining. The point guard made two free throws to give the Warriors a 65-62 lead.

Jerry Major made a 10-foot jump shot with 56 seconds left to bring Pasadena within 65-64, then Williams drove the lane against three Pasadena defenders to score with 10 seconds left and give the Warriors (12-10 overall, 3-2 in league play) a three-point lead.

Pasadena’s Burl Irby missed a three-point shot at the buzzer that could have set the game into overtime.

“I knew I had to take charge,” Williams said. “Coach (Paul Landreaux) said I wasn’t a leader and I wanted to show him that I was. It was adrenaline. Our offense wasn’t working so good.”

The Warriors, who made 23 of 51 shots from the field, were held scoreless through the first three minutes of the game. The teams exchanged the lead throughout the first half before Pasadena (14-12, 1-4) took a 34-31 halftime lead.

Pasadena, which played without leading scorer Chris Bush and Major in the first half because of disciplinary reasons, took a 54-44 lead midway through the second half. The Warriors answered with 10-2 run to tie the score at 61.

“We weren’t playing basketball,” Landreaux said. “Offensively our execution was horrible. We just didn’t do a good job executing tonight.”

Mark Johnson led El Camino with a game-high 18 points and Mike Reynolds had 15. Albert Marion led Pasadena with 14 points.
