San Diego homicide detectives arrested a 19-year-old Chula Vista man on Sunday in connection with the stabbing death of an El Cajon doctor whose body was discovered last week in Point Loma, police said.

An anonymous tip led police to a National City apartment complex where the car of Dr. Jaime Hinahon, 33, was parked, homicide Lt. John Welter said. Hinahon was found dead with a stab wound to his upper torso on Feb. 6 on Sunset Cliffs Boulevard near Point Loma Nazarene College.

After discovering the 1990 Honda Prelude sedan, city homicide detectives arrested David Michael Williams, 19, shortly after 7 p.m., Welter said. Some of Hinahon’s possessions, including his car keys, were found on Williams, police said.

Police believe Hinahon and Williams had known each other for about a week before the slaying and that they may have driven to the scene in Hinahon’s car, Welter said. Authorities are still determining whether robbery was the motive for the killing.

Williams is being held without bail on suspicion of murder, jail officials said.

Hinahon, who lived in San Diego, was a doctor at a medical clinic in El Cajon, police said.
