Antonio Elias’ modernized Santa Cruz 70 Ole led the biennial yacht race to Manzanillo on the first day out as the fleet struggled in light southeast headwinds of six to seven knots.
Ole was 115 miles along the 1,100-nautical mile track after 24 hours. Roy Disney’s SC 70 Pyewacket was 116 miles along but farther to the west.
Thursday’s five starters were led by Robert Kahn’s Jano.
