THOUSAND OAKS : Child-Care Expert May Visit Old Town

Share

The Thousand Oaks City Council on Tuesday will consider spending up to $21,000 to hire a consultant to study the need for child-care services in a low-income neighborhood.

The consultant would survey residents, workers and others in a three-square-mile neighborhood known as Old Town, located near the Ventura Freeway and bordered by Hampshire and Rancho roads.

Councilman Frank Schillo said the area was chosen after residents asked the city to examine the need for child-care services there.

The consultant would help decide whether services are needed, and, if so, recommend ways to finance them. The recommendations are expected by July.

If the study shows the need for a child-care facility, the city may look into helping a nonprofit group set up a center.
