It’s a Bird, it’s a . . . Chris Lynch?
The Laguna Hills distance runner wasn’t hard to spot during the boys’ two-mile at the Sunkist Invitational indoor track and field meet Saturday at the Sports Arena. The meet has a rule barring high school team jerseys from being worn, so Lynch reached into his closet and pulled out Larry Bird’s No. 33 Boston Celtic jersey.
Why?
“I’m an Irishman,” said Lynch, who also wore a green shamrock painted on his arm. “It’s just one of those little things. I’m really superstitious.”
Wonder if he realized St. Patrick’s Day isn’t until next month?
No matter. Lynch, who led Laguna Hills to the CIF State Division III cross-country title last fall, finished second in a personal-best 9:33.8.
