A wrong-way driver carrying almost $3,000 in cash died Wednesday afternoon after his car slammed into an oncoming van carrying a pregnant 26-year-old woman and her young daughter, police said.

Robert B. Donavant, 22, of Norwalk was killed instantly after the 2:40 p.m. collision on Lincoln Avenue just west of Knott Avenue, said Sgt. Terry Branum.

The woman and her 5-year-old daughter, who were not identified, were taken to Humana Hospital-West Anaheim, where they were treated for minor injuries and released, police said.

The woman, who was eight months’ pregnant, was driving east when she decided to go around an Orange County Transit District bus that was pulling into traffic, police said. As she entered the left-hand lane, Donavant struck the van.

The OCTD bus was not involved, Branum said.

Police said they found $2,900 in cash under the driver seat of Donavant’s car as well as some drug paraphernalia, such as vials and a pipe, Branum said.
