The Los Angeles Fire Department rescued two people from their mangled vehicles after a four-car collision in Van Nuys, authorities said Saturday.

Don Goetz, 36, of Tujunga and Carolyn Manaay, 29, of Panorama City were taken to Northridge Hospital Medical Center after the 6:15 p.m. incident Friday, said Los Angeles Police Officer Joseph Gomez.

Goetz is in stable condition with a spinal injury and Manaay is in serious but stable condition with fractured legs.

The collisions occurred when Goetz’s pickup truck rear-ended a car driven by Ronald Krulak, 50, as both were driving east on Roscoe Boulevard near Gloria Avenue, Gomez said. Krulak was not hurt.

After hitting Krulack’s car, Goetz’s pickup continued east on Roscoe Boulevard for about 450 yards, colliding head-on with Manaay’s westbound car, Gomez said.

Manaay’s car spun out of control and hit a car driven by Richard Ginevan, 52, of Newhall who was driving west, Gomez said. Ginevan was not hurt.

Goetz will not be cited.
