ANTELOPE VALLEY : Agency Created to Oversee Bus Service

Share

A new public agency known as the Antelope Valley Transit Authority--jointly funded by the cities of Lancaster and Palmdale and the county of Los Angeles--has been created to oversee public bus service in the region.

The region’s bus service, costing several million dollars a year, had been administered by county officials alone even though the service is jointly funded by the three agencies. Under a new agreement between the cities and county, all decisions will be made by a three-member board, with one member from each jurisdiction.

The change was completed Tuesday night when the Palmdale City Council approved a joint powers agreement that had already been adopted by Lancaster and the county. The transit board is expected to decide this spring on new bus contractors, improved service levels and fare changes.
