HUNTINGTON BEACH : Baker Shot in Chest by 1 of 4 Assailants

Share

A baker who was shot in the chest by one of four assailants as he was tending an all-night doughnut shop was listed in stable condition at UCI Medical Center in Orange, authorities said Thursday.

Daniel Escobar, 21, was the lone employee just before midnight Wednesday at Donut Makers, 16487 Springdale St., when four men came in to buy pastries, Lt. Ed McErlain said.

One man followed Escobar as he walked into the kitchen, pointed a handgun at him and told him to raise his hands, police said. The man then shot Escobar once in the chest and fled with the others.

No money was demanded, and nothing was missing from the shop. Investigators have yet to determine a motive.

Police found Escobar, who first called the shop owner at home after the assailants left, bleeding on the kitchen floor.

Authorities ask that anyone with information call Detective Tom Gilligan at (714) 536-5940 or the 24-hour hot line, (714) 960-8843.
