UC Irvine Goes Deep to Beat Portland, 7-2
UC Irvine got home runs from Corey Parker and Matt Filson in a 7-2 victory over Portland in a nonconference baseball game Monday at Irvine.
Filson hit a bases-empty home run, his fourth of the season, in the second inning.
Irvine added two runs in the fourth on a two-run home run by Parker, his second. He finished with two hits and three runs batted in.
Irvine (10-7) added three in the fifth and one in the eighth. Chris Facione had three hits and drove in a run for the Anteaters.
Jon VanZandt (3-2) earned the victory, striking out five and walking one over eight innings.
Portland is 5-5-1. Irvine travels to San Diego State today for a 5 p.m. game.
