Oscar Moment: A three-man crew from Los Angeles visited ailing Indian film director Satyajit Ray, 70, in a Calcutta hospital Monday to tape his acceptance speech for the Oscar that will formally be bestowed on him March 30 at the Academy Awards. When Ray was selected for the honorary Oscar for lifetime achievement last December, he said he hoped to attend the Academy Awards ceremony in Los Angeles if he was well enough to travel. But he has been hospitalized for several weeks, complaining of chest pains and respiratory problems. Ray has made more than 30 films, almost all of them in his native Bengali language, usually dealing with social problems, family conflicts and changing values in modern India.
