Two women suspected of robbing two senior citizens in separate incidents were arrested Friday near San Ysidro, San Diego police said.

“A 65-year-old woman was robbed of $81 and her checkbook Thursday afternoon and dragged by the robber’s car when she tried to hang onto her purse in a shopping center parking lot,” police spokesman Bill Robinson said.

“On Friday morning, a 70-year-old woman in Chula Vista had her purse with more than $300 taken by the same method when a woman approached her and grabbed her purse before running into a white Oldsmobile driven by another woman.”

Both of the senior citizens were hospitalized, but their conditions were not released.

The two robbery suspects, Aisha Barnett, 24, and Nicole Jimerson, 19, were arrested in South San Diego on suspicion of two counts of robbery, burglary and possession of stolen property, Robinson said.

Officer Tim Williams of the Southern Division in San Ysidro made the arrest after tracing the car’s license and waiting for Barnett, the registered owner, to return to her home on Oro Vista Road. The checkbook from the Thursday robbery was found in her possession, Robinson said.
