6 Flood Disaster Assistance Centers to Close

Share

Although the weekend skies are still stormy, the six disaster assistance centers opened to assist victims of last month’s downpour will close today after providing financial aid information and housing to almost 2,500 households, a spokeswoman said.

The number of applications has dwindled in recent weeks, prompting officials to close the centers, said Mary Kennedy of the Federal Emergency Management Agency. Disaster application centers in Lancaster, North Hollywood, Malibu, Thousand Oaks, Hesperia and Westminster will permanently close at 7 p.m., Kennedy said.

The disaster centers may be closed, but residents whose homes were damaged or destroyed by the February storm may apply for housing assistance, federal grants or low-interest loans by calling the toll-free number, 1-800-462-9029, from Monday to Friday between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. until April 27.
