The U.S. Men’s National Water Polo team will open its 1992 Olympic training schedule at 3 p.m. Sunday at Corona del Mar High with the first of four matches against the Spanish National Team.

Spain, which will be one of the favorites this summer in Barcelona, is led by Manuel Estiarte, the high scorer in the 1984 and ’88 Olympics. The last time the teams met, the United States defeated Spain, 6-5, in a semifinal of the FINA Water Polo World Cup in July. The U.S. went on to defeat Yugoslavia for the championship, its first major international title since the 1904 Olympics.

Tickets, available at the door, are $5 for adults and $3 for students and children. The second match will be held Wednesday at the Belmont Plaza Olympic Pool in Long Beach. Next Saturday and Sunday, the teams will finish the series at Stanford and California.
