COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Three Runs in Eighth Help Chapman Win

Chapman scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning and defeated Utah, 7-5, in a nonconference baseball game Monday at Hart Park.

Rob Reimers drove in the go-ahead run on a squeeze play with the bases loaded. Reimers reached first safely on an infield single when his bunt got past the pitcher and the first baseman. Kevin Cook had tied the score with an RBI single earlier in the inning.

Cliff Anderson, who scored the go-ahead run, had two hits and two RBIs. Corey Giuliano allowed one hit in four innings of relief to earn the victory for the Panthers (21-8), who are ranked 24th in the Baseball America poll and 30th in the Collegiate Baseball poll. Utah, which ended Chapman’s eight-game winning streak Saturday, is 5-15.

In nonconference women’s tennis:

UC Irvine 9, Nebraska 0--The Anteaters won their sixth consecutive match, winning all nine matches in straight sets. Ali Yoshimoto defeated Zarina Galvan, 7-5, 6-3, at No. 1 singles to raise her record to 11-3. Irvine is 10-4.
