Breaking News: KCAL-TV Channel 9 is going to enter the dinner-time news battle with a new half-hour local newscast scheduled to debut June 15. Jerry Dunphy and Pat Harvey will co-anchor “First 9 News” at 6:30 p.m., taking on the network news programs anchored by Dan Rather, Tom Brokaw and Peter Jennings. Anchor-reporter David Jackson will be a regular contributor. Bob Henry, vice president and director of news, said the 6:30 p.m. newscast was “a logical expansion” of the station’s news service, which now includes three hours of prime-time news (8-11 p.m.) as well as a noon news program.
