SAN DIEGO : 12-Year Sentence in Killing
The former boyfriend of a slain nursery school teacher was sentenced Tuesday to 12 years in state prison.
Alonzo Cepeda Randall, 32, of San Diego, also was fined $500 for the Sept. 1 death of Geraldine Cruz, 50, who was stabbed to death in her Southeast San Diego home. Randall pleaded guilty Feb. 21 to voluntary manslaughter and a murder charge was dismissed.
Testimony at his preliminary hearing showed that the couple broke up in August and Cruz obtained a temporary restraining order against Randall to keep him from contacting her. She was stabbed in the chest, but called 911 before collapsing in her kitchen.
