A 30-year-old Ventura motorist was stabbed twice on Saturday morning by a pedestrian who accused the man of trying to run him over, police said.

Cresencio Perez was in serious condition Saturday at Ventura County Medical Center, nursing supervisor Chris Chiaravalloti said.

Perez, alone in his car, was driving east on San Nicholas Street near Santa Cruz Street about 11:50 a.m. when he stopped to allow a pedestrian to cross the street, according to a statement by Officer Ray Romero.

The pedestrian, who Perez described as a male in his 30s, got angry at Perez, accusing the motorist of trying to hit him with the car. The man began arguing with Perez and eventually pulled him from the car, stabbing him twice in the chest, according to Romero.

The man then fled the area on foot, and police had made no arrests by Saturday evening.

Perez drove himself home but was taken to Ventura County Medical Center by friends. When he arrived at the hospital, he was in critical condition, according to the police statement.
