2 Men Flee After Shots at Officer
A police officer exchanged gunfire with at least one of two men Sunday morning after he approached them loitering suspiciously near a parked car, Police Sgt. Steve Ames said.
The unnamed officer saw the men about 4:49 a.m. near an alley behind 2901 E. Vine Ave. Before the officer “could make contact, one took out a handgun and opened fire,” Ames said.
During a subsequent foot chase, one or both suspects fired again, with the officer firing back, he said.
Despite an extensive ground and air search, the suspects escaped through a nearby riverbed overgrown with high brush.
Ames described one gunman as age 20 to 25, with a dark sweat shirt and sweat pants. The other was about 5 feet, 9 inches, with neck-length hair.
