Jurisprudence
Nevada Las Vegas basketball player J.R. Rider pleaded guilty to a charge stemming from an altercation with a policeman.
Rider pleaded guilty to one count of driving an unregistered vehicle as part of a plea bargain in which he will perform 40 hours of community service.
Rider, the team’s leading scorer last season as a junior, was arrested Jan. 24 on a misdemeanor charge of obstructing a police officer. He was arrested after a dispute at a fast-food drive-through window over a food order.
According to police, Rider was uncooperative and interfered with police.
The charge was reduced to disorderly conduct and will be dismissed in 90 days if Rider completes his community service and is involved in no other trouble.
