SIMI VALLEY : 2 Men Indicted on Marijuana Charges
Two Simi Valley men have been indicted by the Ventura County Grand Jury on charges of maintaining a marijuana plantation in a house in Acton.
Kenneth Karns, 26, and Paul Stanton, 31, were scheduled to be arraigned April 30 before Ventura County Superior Court Judge James McNally.
Karns was charged with one count of possessing cocaine for sale while armed with semiautomatic rifles, shotguns and other weapons, and one count of possession of psilocybin mushrooms, a hallucinogen. Karns and Stanton were jointly charged with conspiracy to grow marijuana, and growing the drug.
In January, law enforcement officials seized cocaine, a large number of firearms and marijuana from Karns’ home in Simi Valley. Police officers also found paperwork for a rented house in Acton, in the Antelope Valley, where they discovered an indoor marijuana plantation. Utility bills for the residence in Stanton’s name were found in the Acton home.
Karns, who is free on $10,000 bail, faces more than 10 years in prison if convicted of all charges, said Senior Dist. Atty. Charles R. Roberts. Stanton, who is free on $5,000 bail, could receive a maximum sentence of three years in prison, he said.
