Shooting Accident Injures Recruit
A sheriff’s deputy recruit was slightly injured Sunday in a shooting accident on the target range at the Peter J. Pitchess Honor Rancho in Castaic, authorities said.
The mishap occurred about 4:40 p.m. when the unidentified recruit, training for the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department reserve force, accidentally fired his gun while loading it, Sgt. Ron Spear said. The bullet ricocheted off the ground and struck a second recruit, he said.
The injured man, who also was not identified, was treated for a “superficial wound” in the left knee, Spear said.
Sheriff’s detectives were investigating the accident.
