Richardson, Mowl Spark Northridge to 11-4 Victory : College baseball: Matadors collect 16 hits against the University of San Diego in notching fourth win in a row.

Scott Richardson and Scott Mowl combined for six hits and six runs batted in Tuesday to lead Cal State Northridge to an 11-4 nonconference baseball victory over the University of San Diego.

Northridge (23-7-1) scored two runs in the first and four in the second to take a 6-0 lead. From there, the Matadors cruised to their fourth win in a row and 23rd in the past 26 decisions.

Richardson, a junior second baseman, was four for five and drove in three runs. Mowl, the designated hitter, was two for four with a home run, his fifth of the season and third in as many games.

Mike Solar, who also had three runs batted in, started the Northridge scoring with a two-run double. The Matadors chased starter Pat James (3-2) in the second.

Denny Vigo doubled with one out to start the rally. Chris Olsen reached first on an infield error and Greg Shockey walked to load the bases.

Andy Hodgins was hit by a pitch to force in a run before Richardson followed with a bases-clearing triple to give Northridge a 6-0 lead.

The Matadors pounded out 16 hits against four pitchers.

Northridge left-hander John Bushart (3-1), buoyed by the early cushion, threw an eight-hitter. He struck out five and walked one.

Brady Clark and Tony Moeder had triples and John Fenn a double for San Diego (17-19).

Mowl hit his homer in the sixth, a two-run shot to left that gave the Matadors a 9-2 lead.

San Diego answered with two runs in the seventh to pull within five runs, but the Matadors added two runs in the eighth to close out the scoring.
