Two secondary schools in Burbank and Agoura Hills have been named winners in the state Department of Education’s Distinguished Schools Program.

Burbank High School and Lindero Canyon Middle School are among the 104 secondary schools in the state selected as distinguished schools.

The schools were chosen after submitting to a screening process that included examination of dropout rates, student scores on standardized tests, enrollment in advanced academic courses and college attendance rates.

Burbank was recognized this year for “substantial improvement” as well as for its performance.

The Distinguished Schools Program was launched in 1984 and recognizes elementary and secondary schools in alternate years. Burbank and Lindero Canyon will be honored with the other winners at an awards ceremony in San Francisco on April 22.
