VENTURA : Man Arrested on Pyrotechnic Charge

Share

A Ventura man has been cited for suspicion of setting off a destructive device in the car of a co-worker last month, authorities said Tuesday.

William Russell Dean Jr., 28, was arrested for allegedly discharging a pyrotechnic device without a permit, vehicle tampering and vandalism in connection with the March 23 incident.

His arrest ended the search for a cause to a small explosion in the engine compartment of a car owned by Dale Marinus of Santa Paula, who said the device exploded when he started his car after work.

Marinus, a driver for Armored Transport of California, told investigators that he had left the car in an employees’ parking lot near the firm’s offices in the 100 block of West Santa Clara Street in Ventura.

The small device exploded when Marinus turned the ignition.

But the car was undamaged except for a nameplate that was blown off, police said.
