* GANG VIOLENCE: Approved a proposal by Councilman Michael Woo to spend $2,200 from his office budget to pay for Los Angeles police anti-gang officers to continue overtime patrols near Hollywood Boulevard and Western Avenue to deter increased gang violence.

* GRAFFITI CLEANUP: Approved spending $2,500 from Councilman John Ferraro’s office budget to pay for various public service projects, including $500 for graffiti cleanup campaign.

* HOUSING AND TRAFFIC: Approved a motion by Councilwoman Ruth Galanter that asks the city Planning Department to prepare an ordinance to regulate traffic and housing construction in the east Venice and west Mar Vista neighborhoods. The ordinance will replace a temporary controlling ordinance due to expire in July. The permanent provisions will include regulating the height of apartments and requiring landlords to give tenants six months’ notice before an apartment building is torn down.

* APPEAL GRANTED: Granted an appeal from several Westwood homeowner associations that were opposing the construction of a 22-unit condominium project at 10795 Wilshire Blvd. The Planning Commission had approved the project, but Councilman Zev Yaroslavsky was opposed to it. He said it was not compatible with single-family properties.

HOW THEY VOTED: Westside representatives vote s on selected issues.

* NEW POLICE STATION: Approved a proposal to construct a North Hollywood area city police station at 11640 Burbank Blvd. The 2.75 acres of vacant land where the station is to be built is owned by the city’s Recreation and Parks Department. The two agencies will exchange land under an agreement. Once the station is built, the old police station at 11480 Tiara St. will be used as a senior citizens center or child day-care facility. Passed: 11-0. Voting yes: Marvin Braude, Ruth Galanter, Nate Holden, Joel Wachs, Michael Woo and Zev Yaroslavsky. John Ferraro was absent.

* CINCO DE MAYO: Approved a traffic plan that includes the temporary closure of certain streets near Olvera Street Plaza from April 30 to May 4 as part of a Cinco de Mayo celebration. The closure will include Los Angeles Street between Alameda and Arcadia streets from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. from April 30 through May 4. Passed 11-0. Voting yes: Braude, Galanter, Holden, Wachs, Woo and Yaroslavsky. Ferraro was absent.

* REPLACING POLICE OFFICERS: Approved a proposal asking the Police Commission to develop a plan within 90 days to return all sworn, able-bodied police officers from desk-bound duties to street duty and replace them with civilian employees. Passed: 14-0. Voting yes: Braude, Galanter, Holden, Wachs, Woo and Yaroslavsky. Ferraro was absent.

* ‘NO KILLING WEEKEND’: In an effort to stop gang violence, approved a resolution urging city residents to honor a proposed moratorium from community church leaders calling for a “No Killing Weekend” during the Easter celebration from April 17 through 19. Passed 11-0. Voting yes: Braude, Galanter, Holden, Wachs, Woo and Yaroslavsky. Ferraro was absent.
