WHAT WE SAVE FOR LAST by...
WHAT WE SAVE FOR LAST by Corinne Demas Bliss (Milkweed Editions: $11.). The short stories in this collection focus on women coping with the pains caused by love in its many forms. In “Margaret, Are You Grieving,” a mother whose young daughter died in a freak accident numbly surveys the beauties of a tropical island: “She felt these pleasures were squandered on her--a person who remembered pleasure as a concept but could no longer really feel it--just as a person who has gone deaf can remember but in no way ever hear sound again.” Nicely drawn cameos of women exploring their roles in contemporary society.
