SAN FERNANDO VALLEY : Community Seders Planned at 3 Sites

Passover officially ends Saturday, but the principal rite of the holiday will be celebrated the next day at three locations for nearly 400 San Fernando Valley Jews who otherwise have found it difficult to attend a Seder meal.

More than 200 elderly Jewish residents, many living alone or in nursing homes, will take part in community Seders either at Temple Beth Kodesh in Canoga Park or the Jewish Family Service building in North Hollywood. More than 175 Russian immigrants will attend a Seder at Temple Adat Shorashim in Reseda.

The free Seders are being held after the eight-day holiday because rabbis and cantors leading them were not available earlier, said coordinator Dorothy Rae Pershing of Thousand Oaks. The three services are among 10 being co-sponsored this year in the Los Angeles area by B’nai B’rith Lodges and Jewish Family Service.
