Hodkinson Stops Cruz, Retains WBC Title
Paul Hodkinson (20-1-1) of England stopped Steve Cruz (35-7) during the third round to retain his World Boxing Council featherweight title at Belfast, Northern Ireland.
Cruz, the former World Boxing Assn. champion from Ft. Worth, was floored by a left hook one minute into the third round but was able to get up. However, he appeared unable to see properly and referee Rolando Barrovechio stopped the fight.
Cruz was a substitute opponent after Troy Dorsey pulled out of the fight because of an injury.
