SANTA ANA — In three separate incidents, shots were fired at motorists on Orange County freeways late Friday and early Saturday, the California Highway Patrol reported. No one was hurt, and the reasons for the shootings are unknown.
No motorist saw a shooter in any of the incidents, which occurred on the Garden Grove, Costa Mesa and Santa Ana freeways. In each instance, a single shot struck part of the automobile, and the drivers did not see where the shots came from, CHP officers reported.
The first shooting occurred at 11:44 p.m. Friday on the Garden Grove Freeway near the Glassell Street off-ramp in Orange. The CHP said a westbound limousine reported being hit by a single gunshot.
At 11:45 p.m., a car northbound on the Costa Mesa Freeway also was struck by a bullet as it drove near the vicinity of Edinger Avenue in Santa Ana.
About 20 minutes later, the third shooting incident took place on the southbound Santa Ana Freeway, between the Culver and Jeffrey drives off-ramps, the CHP said. As in the other cases, a car was hit by a single bullet, the CHP said.
