Crawford Makes Indy History, Hits 233 m.p.h.
Jim Crawford and Roberto Guerrero, in Buick-powered cars, drove the fastest laps in Indianapolis Motor Speedway history Monday.
After Guerrero set an unofficial track record of 230.432 m.p.h. during practice for the Indy 500 May 24, Crawford shattered that mark three hours later with a lap of 232.198 and finished minutes before the track closed with an astonishing 233.433.
Guerrero also had an earlier run that topped 230.
Michael Andretti, driving a Ford-powered car, had a top lap of 230.852 an hour before the track closed and his father, Mario, had a fast lap of 229.504.
Race qualifying will begin this weekend.
