Matthew Stottern finished eighth, and he and his UC San Diego teammates were third in the team standings after Friday’s final round of the NCAA Division III men’s golf championships.

Stottern shot a 75 Friday at the par-72 Wooster Country Club in Wooster, Ohio, leaving him with a four-round total of 296, 13 strokes behind champion Jon Lindquist of Gustavus Adolphus.

Lindquist’s 283 set a Division III record, eclipsing the mark of 286 by Mike Bendor of Cal State Stanislaus in 1980. Lindquist won the tournament by seven strokes over David Hathaway of Skidmore.

AMERICA’S CUP

A rare opportunity to touch or pose next to an America’s Cup boat is offered this weekend.

Dennis Conner’s Stars & Stripes is loaded on a ground-level shipping cradle outside his compound behind the San Diego Convention Center on Harbor Drive. It will be loaded on a truck Tuesday and taken to New York to help promote Conner’s new sailing programs out of the North Cove Yacht Harbor.

The Stars & Stripes gift shop is offering discounts on souvenirs and apparel.

The boat is tipped to starboard so the deck layout is visible.

And, by the way, although 75 feet has been the length commonly listed for America’s Cup boats, Stars & Stripes is actually 80 feet long. You can step it off yourself.
