Two men have died at Mercy Hospital of wounds suffered in separate earlier attacks, police said Tuesday.

In the earlier case, a man who had been stabbed April 30 in the 1400 block of Market Street died Friday, police Lt. John Welter said. He said Juan Hernandez, 31, address unknown, died at the hospital, where he had been hospitalized since the attack.

Hernandez and a friend were walking back to Hernandez’s downtown hotel room when they were attacked by two men, Welter said.

In the second case, the dead man, believed to be in his early 20s, remains unidentified. He was found May 15 lying by the side of the road in the 5300 block of Shelby Street in the Oak Park neighborhood of East San Diego.

The man had been struck in the head by an unknown object and suffered severe head trauma, Welter said.

A woman saw the body and called police, Welter said. He said homicide detectives hope the woman will come forward so they can get more information.
