Mario Andretti was released from Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, but his youngest son, Jeff, will be hospitalized at least two more weeks and then faces months of rehabilitation from serious foot and leg injuries sustained in last week’s Indianapolis 500.
The two Andrettis were among eight drivers taken to Methodist during last Sunday’s race. The younger Andretti broke both legs and his heels, Dr. Terry R. Trammell said.
He underwent another 10 1/2 hours of follow-up plastic surgery Thursday.
“His injuries were the worst of the day by far,” Trammell said. “He shattered both heels. Both came through the skin.”
