The Minnesota Twins regained their first-round pick in Monday’s amateur draft when an arbitrator ruled that they do not have to give it to the Seattle Mariners as compensation for signing Bill Krueger. Arbitrator George Nicolau, in a decision reached May 19 and released Friday, said compensation does not apply when a free agent re-signs with a minor league team and later agrees to a major league contract with the parent club. As a result, Minnesota will select 26th. The Mariners retain their own pick, which is 14th.

Outfielders Ray Lankford and Brian Jordan of the St. Louis Cardinals were arrested early Friday after Lankford honked his car horn excessively at another car, authorities said. Lankford was cited for unnecessary noise, a city ordinance, after being stopped at an intersection in north St. Louis about 1:45 a.m., a police spokeswoman said. Jordan argued with police about the ticket and was cited for interfering with an officer.
