1 Dead, 1 Hurt in Stabbings at Party

A Leucadia man was stabbed to death and another man was injured Saturday night, allegedly by a man who crashed a party on Leucadia Boulevard, the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department said.
Augustine Santiago, 32, died after being stabbed in the chest during a party for a relative’s first Communion in the 100 block of Leucadia Boulevard, authorities said.
Benito Caballero, 26, also was stabbed in the chest, authorities said. Caballero was treated at Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla and released.
Deputies arrested Felipe Mendez, a 21-year-old cook, who they said was hiding near the 900 block of Hermes Avenue, where Santiago had collapsed after chasing his attacker.
Santiago died at the scene before paramedics arrived, officials said.
Mendez was taken to the County Jail in Vista, where he was being held without bail, authorities said.
Witnesses told deputies that Mendez had been asked to leave the party “due to rowdy behavior” before the attack, Sgt. Manny Castillo said.
