SOLANA BEACH : Carpenter Arrested in Bank Robberies

Share

A 38-year-old unemployed carpenter from San Clemente was arrested by the FBI Wednesday in connection with two bank robberies Tuesday afternoon in Solana Beach, an FBI spokesman said.

David Millard Jones was taken to the Metropolitan Correctional Center to await an appearance before a U.S. magistrate on charges of bank robbery.

A man held up the Bank of America and then the Security Pacific Bank, both in Solana Beach, on Tuesday. The robber was spotted by a bank customer getting into a recent-model car whose description was radioed to the California Highway Patrol. A CHP officer noticed the car along Interstate 5 near the San Onofre checkpoint and arrested Jones.

FBI Agent Joseph Johnson said Jones is a suspect in several other bank robberies that have taken place in North County and Orange County in the past several months. The robber in those incidents has been dubbed the “Beach Cities Bandit” because of his habit of robbing banks in coastal towns.
